把「多確定、消息從哪來、我承諾多少」講精準:seemingly/reportedly/presumably
Ken: Is the deal going through?(這筆交易會成嗎?) Mia: Presumably — the paperwork's done.(大概會——文件都好了。) Ken: And the price?(那價格呢?) Mia: Reportedly around ten million, though that's unconfirmed.(據報約一千萬,不過未經證實。) Ken: So allegedly a record.(所以據稱是紀錄。) Mia: Seemingly, yes — but I'd take it with a pinch of salt.(表面上是——但我會保留一點。)
- 依邏輯推斷:presumably(想必)、conceivably(可以想見)、arguably(可以說)
- 依表象:apparently(看來/據說)、seemingly(表面上)、ostensibly(表面上,常暗示其實不然)
- 依他人消息:reportedly(據報)、allegedly(據稱,未證實)、supposedly(據說,常帶懷疑)
- 承諾程度:undoubtedly(無疑)、admittedly(誠然)、arguably(可辯地)
① Stance(我有多確定)——一條光譜:
- 高:undoubtedly / clearly / definitely it's true.
- 中:presumably / probably / arguably it's true.
- 低/保留:possibly / conceivably / perhaps it's true.
② Evidentiality(消息從哪來)——這是 C2 的細膩:
- He allegedly took the money.(據稱——法律/新聞常用,保持中立)
- Apparently, they've split up.(看來——常表「我聽說/看起來」)
- ostensibly(表面上,常暗示「其實另有原因」):He left ostensibly for health reasons.(表面上是健康因素——言下之意未必)
It's supposedly the best — I'm not convinced.
- arguably = 「可以這麼主張」(有據但不武斷):arguably the finest example。
- Presumably, they agreed. / They presumably agreed. / They agreed, presumably.
- 把所有「據說」都用 "It is said"——其實一個副詞更精簡:Reportedly, … / Allegedly, …。
- 意見講太滿:「X is the best」→ 更 C2:「X is arguably the best」。

|---|---|---|---|
| presumably | /prɪˈzuməbli/ | 想必 | Presumably they agreed. |
| allegedly | /əˈlɛdʒɪdli/ | 據稱(未證實) | He allegedly lied. |
| apparently | /əˈpɛrəntli/ | 看來、據說 | Apparently, it's closed. |
| ostensibly | /ɑˈstɛnsəbli/ | 表面上 | ostensibly for safety |
| unconfirmed | /ˌʌnkənˈfɝmd/ | 未經證實 | still unconfirmed |
→ He allegedly took the money.
→ Apparently, they've broken up.
練習 2:把 "It is said/reported that…"
- It is reported that profits fell. → Reportedly, profits fell.
_ is arguably the _.
- 一組副詞各有分寸:presumably/arguably(推斷)、apparently/seemingly/ostensibly(表象)、reportedly/allegedly/supposedly(他人消息、不背書)。
