連接倒裝(Not only… / No sooner…)

用倒裝把兩件事漂亮地扣在一起:"Not only did she win, but she also broke the record."(她不只贏了,還破了紀錄。)以及講「一…就…」:"No sooner had I sat down than the phone rang."。這是把句子寫得有層次、有節奏的 C1 招式。

💬 先聽一段對話

Amy: Did the launch go well?（發表會順利嗎?) Ken: Not only did it go well, but we also got great press.（不只順利,還拿到很好的媒體報導。) Amy: Nice. When did the orders start?（讚。訂單什麼時候開始的?) Ken: No sooner had we finished than the first order came in.（我們才剛結束,第一筆訂單就進來了。) Amy: Only then did we realise how big this was.（我們到那時才明白這有多大。)

🔑 三個常用結構

• Not only + 倒裝, but … also …:Not only was it cheap, but it also worked.
• No sooner had + 主詞 + PP + than + 過去簡單:一…就…
• Only + 時間/條件 + 倒裝:Only after lunch did he call.

🧩 文法點:三種連接倒裝

① Not only… but also…(不只…而且…):

• 前半 Not only 開頭 → 倒裝;後半 but … also 正常語序。
• Not only did they apologise, but they also offered a refund.
• Not only was the food great, but the service was too.
• 注意:倒裝只發生在 Not only 那半;also 可放 but 之後或動詞旁。

② No sooner… than… / Hardly… when…(一…就…,講兩件事緊接發生):

• 結構固定:No sooner had + 主詞 + 過去分詞 + than + 過去簡單。
  • No sooner had we left than it started to rain.（我們一走,就下起雨。)
• 同義:Hardly had we left when it started to rain.
• 易錯:No sooner 配 than、Hardly 配 when(別配錯);兩者都用過去完成 + 過去簡單。

③ Only + (時間/條件片語) → 倒裝:

• Only then did I understand.（直到那時我才懂。)
• Only after she left did he speak.（她走後他才開口。)
• Only by working together can we win.（唯有合作我們才能贏。)
• 重點:倒裝發生在 Only 片語之後的主要子句,不是 Only 緊接處。

④ 中文母語者常犯:

• ❌ Not only she won, but… → ✅ Not only did she win, but…（前半要倒裝)
• ❌ No sooner… when → ✅ No sooner… than;Hardly… when(配對別亂)
• ❌ Only then I understood. → ✅ Only then did I understand.
