前置與進階分裂句

🎯 這一課你會學會

兩種把重點「往前挪、講得有態度」的招式:Fronting(把某個成分提到句首)——"This I can promise you."(這點我可以向你保證。)以及進階分裂句(cleft)——"All I want is a bit of peace."「It was not until…」。這是 B2 強調句的升級版,讓你的表達更有重量。

💬 先聽一段對話

Mia: You must be exhausted.（你一定累壞了。) Ken: What I need right now is a long weekend.（我現在需要的就是一個長週末。) Mia: Take one. The one thing you shouldn't do is work.（去放。你唯一不該做的就是工作。) Ken: It wasn't until I stopped that I realised how tired I was.（直到我停下,我才發現有多累。) Mia: That I understand completely.（這點我完全懂。)

🔑 三組結構

• Fronting:把受詞/補語提前 → That I can't accept.
• All / What / The (only) thing + 主詞 … + is/was + 重點:All I want is time.
• It + be + not until … + that …:It wasn't until noon that she called.

🧩 文法點:把重點拉到聚光燈下

① Fronting(前置):把想強調的成分放句首。

• 一般:I can't accept that. → 前置:That I can't accept.
• 一般:I don't know why, but… → 前置:Why it happened, I don't know.
• 效果:態度更明確、更有文學/演說感。多半用於強調對比,不要濫用。

② All / What / The thing 分裂句(強調「唯一/正是那樣東西」):

• All I want is (to have) a break.（我要的不過是——休息。all = 只是)
• What matters is the result.（要緊的是——結果。)
• The (only) thing that surprised me was the price.（唯一讓我意外的是——價格。)
• 動作也能被強調:What he did was (to) call the police.
• 這是 B2 What-cleft 的家族擴充:多了 All… 與 The thing… 兩種開頭。

③ It + be + not until… + that…(直到…才,正式版):

• It was not until he left that I understood.（直到他走,我才懂。)
• 比 "Not until he left did I understand."(L01 倒裝版)更書面、更常見於寫作;意思相同。

④ 中文母語者常犯:

• Fronting 後動詞語序不變(除非是否定倒裝那類):✅ This I can promise.（不是 This can I promise.)
• All I want is + 名詞/to V,不要多一個 that:❌ All that I want is that a break.
• It-not-until 句:強調的是 not until…,主要動詞放在 that 之後,別再倒裝。

🗣️ 發音提醒

• 前置成分要重讀:THAT I can't accept;WHAT I need is time——聲音把重點頂出來。
• All I want is 連讀「ɔ-laɪ-wɑn-tɪz」,尾巴 is 接名詞。
• It wasn't until 中,until 重讀,把「直到那一刻」的張力撐住。

✍️ 開口練習

練習 1:改成 All / What 分裂句。

• I just want some quiet. → All I want is some quiet.
• The design impressed me. → What impressed me was the design.

練習 2:用 It was not until… that… 改寫。

• 我到很晚才明白。 → It was not until much later that I understood.

練習 3:用 fronting 表達一個立場。

＿, I can promise you. / What I can't accept is ＿.
